Transfiguration Catholic Church welcomes Dan Marcacci as Direcor of Liturgy and Music.
Dan Marcacci grew up in the Midwest and began studying piano and voice at the age of five and began playing for the Catholic Church in eighth grade on both the piano and the Organ. As a freshman in a Catholic High School he led a teen folk choir at St. Monica’s Catholic Church in Kalamazoo, Michigan, and began his organ studies with a professor at Kalamazoo College, Paula Romanaux and continued Piano Studies at Western Michigan University with various professors. He competed in several Bach competitions and played for both the Methodist Church and Baptist Church to further his knowledge about worship and liturgy beyond Catholicism.
He pursued a dual Bachelors degree in Music/Organ Performance and Telecommunications from Indiana University. Dan studied Organ and Church Music Pedagogy under Dr. Robert Rayfield, Dr. Larry Smith, and Dr. Marilyn Kaiser. During his college studies, he was the piano accompanist for the Singing Hoosiers, ambassadors for Indiana University and its alumni associations and worked with Erich Kunzel and the Cincinnati Pops along and Disney on a Grammy nominated recording entitled “A Disney Spectacular.” He also traveled with the group throughout North America, Greece, Yugoslavia, and Australia.
For over 30 years, Dan has held positions in the Archdiocese of Atlanta as Director of Liturgy and Music at St. Patrick, Director of the Life Teen Band at Prince of Peace and has worked as Principal Organist/Pianist at St. Jude, St. John Neumann and Mary Our Queen. Dan accompanied on organ and piano, the St. John Neumann choir on their trip to Italy in 1999 and was principal organist for several concerts throughout the country including St. Marks in Venice, St. Ignatius in Rome with a National Radio audience, and High Mass at St. Peter’s Basilica at the Vatican where he was encouraged to apply for assistant organist position at the Vatican. While at Prince of Peace, Dan led the Life Teen band for the15th Eucharistic Congress opening mass and healing service.
Dan was most recently the Director of Music for Mary Our Queen Parish in Peachtree Corners, GA, where he supervised the rebuild of an organ for installation into the new Sanctuary, co-designed and oversaw the install of the PA system, and designed and installed the four camera streaming solution upon the pandemic close down of public worship spaces. The choirs grew exponentially under Dan’s leadership and included a teen Cantor’s program, Life Teen Band, Traditional Choir, and Children’s choir.
Dan and his wife, Thea have three boys that have all participated in music ministries and altar serving. He owns a video production company, Video Quest, that is credited with several Telly Awards, an Addy Award, and many Regional Emmy Awards and routinely produces videos for his wife’s Real Estate business serving North Georgia. His goal is to bring people closer to God and Christ, Jesus with the Holy Spirit through music and liturgy at TCC.
Dan creció en el Medio Oeste. Comenzó a estudiar piano y canto a la edad de cinco años y a tocar para la iglesia católica de manera regular en octavo grado. Asistió a escuela católica y luego estudió Órgano/Telecomunicaciones en la Universidad de Indiana. Ha servido en esta Arquidiócesis durante más de 30 años y ha dirigido grupos para tocar en el Congreso Eucarístico aquí en Atlanta y ha tocado la misa mayor en la Basílica de San Pedro en el Vaticano.
