As we move through the winter season, the Church reminds us that caring for one another is not bound to a particular time of year. When temperatures drop and days grow colder, we are invited to slow down, to notice, and to respond with compassion, especially to the elderly, the lonely, and those most vulnerable to the cold.
This winter, our parish has been blessed with the opportunity to live out that call through the story of one of our own parishioners, Mr. Alfredo De la Santos.
Mr. Alfredo was born in Amazonas, Peru, and came to the United States at just 18 years old. His life has been marked by courage, hard work, and resilience. He married his beloved wife, who was originally from Tennessee, and together they built a life rooted in faith and love. Today, at 86 years old, Mr. Alfredo is a widower. He has a daughter, but currently lives alone, accompanied by his quiet routines and his fondness for cats that bring him comfort and companionship.
As winter settled in and temperatures dropped, it became clear that Mr. Alfredo’s home needed urgent support, particularly a reliable heating system to keep him warm and safe during the coldest months of the year. Moved by compassion and a shared sense of responsibility, our parish stepped forward to help.
Through a beautiful partnership with Jape Services, Mr. Alfredo will soon receive a new heating system for his home. The story of Jape Services itself reflects a legacy of care and service. Living in Georgia, Dan Jape knew firsthand how difficult it was to endure extreme temperatures without proper heating or air conditioning. In the early 1970s, he founded a heating and air company that quickly became a trusted name across Atlanta, helping tens of thousands of families stay comfortable through scorching summers and cold winters.
Years later, his son Daniel Jape joined him, continuing the family mission of service. In 2022, Daniel officially carried that legacy forward by founding Jape Services, offering the same dependable, compassionate care that Atlanta families had trusted for over 50 years. Today, Jape Services continues to serve the community with professionalism, integrity, and heart, making their partnership with our parish especially meaningful.
This act of kindness is more than a home repair; it is a reminder that love is made visible through action. It is a sign that no one in our parish family is forgotten.
We extend our heartfelt thanks to Jape Services for their generosity, to those who noticed a need and spoke up, and to all who continue to live the Gospel by caring for one another. As winter continues, we lift Mr. Alfredo in prayer. May he feel warmth not only in his home, but also in his heart, knowing he is surrounded by a caring community.
We also pray for all who face isolation, loneliness, or hardship during this season. May they encounter hope, dignity, and love through the hands and hearts of others. Even in the coldest months, small acts of kindness shine brightly. Thank you for being that light.
Viviendo el Evangelio con Compasión
Al transitar la temporada de invierno, la Iglesia nos recuerda que el llamado a cuidarnos unos a otros no depende de una época específica del año. Cuando las temperaturas bajan y los días se vuelven más fríos, somos invitados a detenernos, a estar atentos y a responder con compasión, especialmente hacia los adultos mayores, las personas solas y quienes son más vulnerables al frío.
Este invierno, nuestra parroquia ha sido bendecida con la oportunidad de vivir ese llamado a través de la historia de uno de nuestros propios feligreses, el señor Alfredo De la Santos.
El señor Alfredo nació en Amazonas, Perú, y llegó a los Estados Unidos con tan solo 18 años. Su vida ha estado marcada por el esfuerzo, la valentía y la perseverancia. Se casó con su amada esposa, originaria de Tennessee, y juntos construyeron una vida fundamentada en la fe y el amor. Hoy, a sus 86 años, el señor Alfredo es viudo. Tiene una hija, pero actualmente vive solo, acompañado de sus rutinas tranquilas y de su cariño por los gatos, que le brindan compañía y consuelo.
Con la llegada del invierno y las bajas temperaturas, se hizo evidente que su hogar necesitaba apoyo urgente, especialmente un sistema de calefacción confiable que le permitiera mantenerse seguro y abrigado durante los meses más fríos del año. Movidos por la compasión y un profundo sentido de responsabilidad comunitaria, nuestra parroquia dio un paso al frente para ayudar.
Gracias a una hermosa colaboración con Jape Services, el señor Alfredo pronto contará con un nuevo sistema de calefacción en su hogar. La historia de Jape Services refleja también un legado de servicio y cuidado. Viviendo en Georgia, Dan Jape conoció de primera mano lo difícil que es enfrentar temperaturas extremas sin calefacción o aire acondicionado adecuados. A principios de la década de 1970, fundó una empresa de calefacción y aire acondicionado que rápidamente se convirtió en un nombre confiable en Atlanta, ayudando a decenas de miles de familias a mantenerse cómodas tanto en veranos intensos como en inviernos fríos.
Años más tarde, su hijo Daniel Jape se unió a él, continuando la misión familiar de servicio. En 2022, Daniel llevó ese legado adelante al fundar Jape Services, ofreciendo el mismo cuidado confiable y compasivo que las familias de Atlanta han valorado por más de 50 años. Este gesto de bondad es mucho más que una reparación en el hogar; es un recordatorio de que el amor se hace visible a través de las acciones y de que nadie en nuestra familia parroquial es olvidado.
Expresamos nuestro más sincero agradecimiento a Jape Services por su generosidad, a quienes detectaron la necesidad y alzaron la voz, y a todos los que continúan viviendo el Evangelio al cuidar unos de otros. Mientras continúa el invierno, elevamos en oración al señor Alfredo. Que sienta el calor no solo en su hogar, sino también en su corazón, sabiendo que está rodeado de una comunidad que se preocupa por él.
