Our Great Journey

This week our theme is “Listen to Him” based on Luke 9:28-36  Lucas 9:28-36

Happy Feast Day Transfiguration!

Registration for 2025-2026 is open, Click HERE. Early registration closes August 1.

Opening Prayer:

All pray the Sign of the Cross

Jesus, we thank you for the Transfiguration, when you revealed your glory to your disciples. May we, too, be transformed by your grace and filled with your Holy Spirit. Help us to follow you with unshakeable faith so that we may one day share in your eternal glory, Amen.

Using the Bible, invite a family member to read the Gospel aloud.

Things to talk about:

  • What is your favorite part of the Transfiguration story?
  • Name the 3 disciples who went to the mountaintop with Jesus. What would you have done if you were there?
  • What does the Transfiguration teach us about Jesus, his divine nature, and the importance of listening to him?
  • How can we share the message of the Transfiguration with others and reflect God’s glory in our daily lives?

Things to do:

  • Wear white to Church to celebrate the Transfiguration.
  • Find the Transfiguration window in the Church. Find Jesus, Moses and Elijah (at the top of the window.) Do you see Elijah’s lamp and Moses holding the Ten Commandments tablet? Find Peter (look for the key on the rope around his waist), Peter, James and John.
  • Construct a “mountain” (using blocks, blankets, etc.) and retell or act out the scene of Jesus’s transfiguration with Moses and Elijah.
  • Take a hike up a mountain or trail, and reflect on the glory of God at the summit.

Closing Prayer

Our Father

Our Father, Who art in Heaven, hallowed be Thy name; Thy Kingdom come, Thy will be done on earth as it is in Heaven. Give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us; and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. Amen.

Name those who need our prayers. Close with the Sign of the Cross.

Catholic Insights

The Transfiguration is a turning point in the Gospels, Jesus was transfigured along with Moses and Elijah. The disciples Peter, James, and John witnessed this amazing event and recognized, maybe for the first time, who Jesus really was.

When they opened their eyes, Peter, James and John saw two holy men talking with Jesus. They recognized Moses and Elijah and hardly knew what to think: Moses had been dead for a very long, time and Elijah had been taken up to heaven in a fiery chariot. The Gospels tell us that they were talking to Jesus about His death, which would bring salvation to all people. Moses and Elijah represent the law and the prophets, Jesus is the fulfillment of the law and the prophets.

Peter was so happy he didn’t know what to say. He just knew he wanted to stay right where he was with Jesus, Moses and Elijah. So he said, “Let’s make three little houses here…” As he said this, a big cloud came and covered them all. The disciples couldn’t see anything and were afraid. They didn’t know what was happening. Then they heard a voice coming out of the cloud, saying, “This is my beloved Son in Whom I am well pleased; listen to Him.” The cloud disappeared and Jesus was alone.

The Transfiguration reminds us that Jesus is the presence of God and we are called to “Listen to Him.”
