June 11 – The Solemnity of The Body and Blood of Christ

June 11, 2023

Our Great Journey

Welcome to our weekly summer blog, designed to share ideas for Living the Gospel at Home. This blog is meant to be interactive, so please share ideas, photos and resources that you have tried at home. Sometimes the simplest ideas are the most meaningful.

This weekend, we are celebrating the Solemnity of the Body and Blood of Christ

John 6:51-58

Jesus tells the crowd of people gathered that he is the living bread that came down from heaven. He tells them that when they eat his flesh and drink his blood, they will remain connected to him forever.

These are difficult words, but they are important because they seek to show us our intimate connection with Jesus. Christians consume the Body and Blood of Christ and then go out to share Christ with others through their generosity, courage, love and faith.

Things to talk about:

  • What types of bread does your family enjoy? How is bread important to your family’s life?
  • What do you think Jesus means when he says “I am the living bread”?

Things to do:

  • Break bread with your family. At your family meal, pass the bread around the table and, as each family member takes a piece, have them tell what they remember about their first Communion and what the Eucharist now means to them.
  • Eucharistic Adoration is one way to proclaim belief in the Real Presence. Even if you can’t devote a whole hour to Adoration, spend a few minutes in front of the Blessed Sacrament talking about how Jesus is truly there.  Learn ways to pray during adoration…
  • Jesus shares bread with a hungry crowd. As a family assemble a “Mercy Bag” or two. Place nutritional items such as protein or breakfast bars, water bottles, canned macaroni with a pop-top lid in a gallon-sized, sealable storage bag. Also include a spoon or fork and a napkin or wipes! Keep the Mercy Bag in your trunk for when you need to give it to person or family in need that you encounter in a shopping center parking lot or in the city.

The United States is in the midst of a three-year National Eucharistic Revival to remind us of the Real Presence of Christ in the Eucharist and restore our understanding of, and devotion to, the Eucharist. On June 10-11, 2023, parishes across the country are intentionally celebrating and highlighting Adoration, the real presence of Jesus, on the Solemnity of the Body and Blood of Christ. …READ MORE

One response to “June 11 – The Solemnity of The Body and Blood of Christ”

  1. Reflection on the Power of the WORD, the Bread of Life, made Flesh [John1:14] who dwelt amongst us: [Matt 4:4] Jesus spoke a powerful truth to the devil: “As it is written: ‘Man does not live on bread alone, but by every word that comes forth from the mouth of God.” The Body of Christ, is the bread that is broken and given out as eternal food to nourish and feed our spirit, mind and soul. “Whom ever is hungry, whomever is thirsty…” the Word of Eternal Life is in the Word made Flesh who dwells amongst us…today. We are the temples of where the Trinity; Father, Son and Holy Spirit dwell…what am I speaking? Life? or Death? Truth? or Lies?
    1. His Body and Blood shed for us are for eternal life which is available for us today, for those who believe. Together with the Word of God [I am the Bread from Heaven and I am the Word of God made flesh], we who believe enter into the on going renewal of mind, body and spirit through the power of the Holy Spirit [Rom 8:12].
    2. Remember that both water and blood gushed forth from the life of Christ as his side was pierced while hanging on the cross. Water and Wine are joined together during the Eucharistic liturgy while prayers and words spoken by the priest join and become the words Jesus spoke at the Last Supper, “This is my Body, given up for you…This is my Blood shed for you…Do this in remembrance of me.” and with our responses we agree and commune together at the table.
Today I heard a teaching on the Power of Words. It was a spiritual eye opener for me. The Word of God is powerful. Life and death are in the power of the tongue. More and more the Holy Spirit is teaching me to be still and to listen to that ‘Still small voice’….and to obey…[1Kings 19:13] …
The following YouTube clip exemplifies the experimental discoveries of the power of words spoken over water…Remember that the human person is made up of approx 70% water: What and how we speak to one another, to ourselves and into what is around us makes a difference. “Go and Make a Difference” -was the closing song today after Mass…Let us therefore Go out and speak blessings and good things into our sphere of influence! [Phil 4:8]-“Finally, my Children, whatsoever things are True, whatsoever things are Honest, whatsoever things are Just, whatsoever things are Pure, whatsoever things are Lovely, whatsoever thing is of Good Report; if there be any Virtue, and if there be any Praise, Think on these things!” Let us become living Bread and Water in a Dry and Thirsty land…
