Faith and Light is an international, ecumenical group of families and friends that welcomes, accompanies, and celebrates those with developmental disabilities. The group meets once each month for prayer, sharing and celebrating the gift of each person. Families with children with disabilities as well as friends participate. And we Love to have Friends join us!!! If you are looking for inspiration, come to the Faith and Light gathering and be amazed by those who “shine in the world like bright stars.”
WHAT IS FAITH AND LIGHT?
It is an ecumenical group, that includes people with intellectual developmental disabilities and their families and friends.
WHAT IS THE PURPOSE OF FAITH AND LIGHT?
Our purpose is to provide a welcoming community where our members can share their gifts and graces, develop friendships, and support and celebrate one another.
WHAT DO WE DO?
Mostly, we share scripture and explore themes (like gratitude, joy, taking care of the earth, helping others, etc.) through conversation, activities, crafts and music. We are a structured yet flexible group, so the specifics can vary.
WHEN DO WE MEET?
We generally meet once a month on the third Saturday from 10:30AM to noon. Most months our “formal” meeting is followed by a short fiesta where those who wish to can stay and share food and conversation.
WHERE DO WE MEET?
We rotate between Transfiguration and St. Ann’s Catholic Churches and most of our meetings can be joined (at least in part) via ZOOM. Specific meeting information can be provided by contact person.
DO I NEED TO BRING ANYTHING?
You do not. Although, we may, from time-to-time, ask for donations of items for our community service projects or supplies for upcoming activities or crafts. If you want to join in the Fiesta, we ask that you bring a dish to share. You may also want to bring a beverage like water, coffee, or tea with you as no beverages are provided.
WHAT IF I’M NOT CATHOLIC?
While Faith and Light is a Christian based group you do not have to be Catholic or Christian to participate. We have members of varied beliefs. Faith and Light is open to everyone regardless of religious affiliation.
DO I HAVE TO BE A MEMBER?
You are welcome to join us for up to two meetings – virtual or in person – without becoming a member. After that, we ask that you become an official member including paying the annual membership fee ($30 individual/$50 family). If payment of the fee is a hardship, please speak to one of the group leaders as limited scholarship memberships may be available.
