Our Great Journey
This week our theme is “Fire in the Spirit” based on Luke 12:49-53/ Lucas 12:49-53
Registration for 2025-2026 is open, Click HERE. Alpha courses begin on Friday, September 5. Journey/Alpha sessions begin the week of September 7. We can’t wait to see you.
Opening Prayer:
All pray the Sign of the Cross
Lord Jesus Christ, grant to our family a sense of unity in following you. We ask the Holy Spirit to give us the fortitude to remain faithful to you and our family.
Using the Bible, invite a family member to read the Gospel aloud.
.
Things to talk about:
- In the gospel today, Jesus teaches us that some people will be against Jesus. Have you ever experienced feeling like your friends, classmates, or even a family member was against you?
- Jesus says that people will be against those who follow him. Sometimes we have to make choices of who to follow. Do we follow friends or acquaintences making choices we know are bad so we can “fit in” or do we follow Jesus and make good choices knowing we are doing the right thing?
- Share a time when you had to choose to do something good when others were choosing to do the wrong thing.
- St. Catherine said, “Be who God meant you to be, and you will set the world on fire.” What is God calling you to be?
Things to do:
- Write this quote from St. Catherine of Sienna on a notecard or poster, “Be who God meant you to be, and you will set the world on fire.” Place the notecard or poster in a place in your house that everyone will see it. Each day this week take time pray together asking God to give you what you need to grow into who you were made to be.
- The gospel message talks about division among families and friends which can cause a lot of stress. To help grow together in your faith, destress from the week, and to promote family unity, spend sometime on a nature walk. Check these Nature Bingo cards and Nature Scavenger Hunt downloads for some extra fun.
- Jesus talked about setting the world on fire. Use fire to make a yummy treat: S’mores! All you need is graham crackers, marshmallows, small chocolate squares, sticks, and a campfire.
Closing Prayer
Guardian Angel Prayer
We all have a Guardian Angel who is our protector and our guide. Pray this prayer together asking your Guardian Angel to be near.
Angel of God,
my guardian dear,
To whom God’s love
commits me here,
Ever this day,
be at my side,
To light and guard,
Rule and guide.
Name those who need our prayers. Close with the Sign of the Cross.
