Our Great Journey

This week our theme is “Corpus Christi” based on Luke 9:11-17 / Lucas 9:11-17

Registration for 2025-2026 is open, Click HERE.

Opening Prayer:

All pray the Sign of the Cross

Lord Jesus, as we celebrate the Solemnity of the Body and Blood of Christ this week, increase our desire to receive the Eucharist and to grow closer to one another in our shared Eucharistic meal. Amen.

Using the Bible, invite a family member to read the Gospel aloud.

.

Things to talk about:

  • What is your favorite meal to have for a family dinner?
  • How does this Gospel story remind you of the Eucharist?
  • This weekend at Mass, we shared a few minutes in Eucharistic Adoration after the Final Blessing. Share with each other your thoughts about this experience of praying before the Blessed Sacrament.

Things to do:

  • Look at your calendar for this week and pick one or two nights you can plan to have a family meal. Plan what you will serve, who will help to prepare the meal, and what you will discuss during your meal time.
  • As we celebrate the Solemnity of the Body and Blood of Christ, share memories and pictures from your and your children’s First Eucharist celebrations. If your children are too young to have celebrated, share your memories from when you recieved your First Eucharist and why you are excited for them to receive when they are able to.
  • Jesus was moved to feed those who were hungry in the crowd. We too are called to feed the hungry. As a family pick an item to take to the St. Vincent de Paul Food Pantry or another local Food Pantry to feed the hungry.

Closing Prayer

Most merciful Father, You continue to draw us to Yourself through the Eucharistic Mystery. Grant us fervent faith in this Sacrament of love, in which Christ the Lord Himself is contained, offered and received. We make this prayer through the same Christ our Lord. Amen

Offer prayers for those who are in need of prayer this day and end with the Sign of the Cross.

Catholic Insights

This week we celebrate the Solemnity of the Body of Christ. During this feast we reflect on Jesus as the Eucharistic meal that gives us life and satisfies our true hunger.

The gospel today is from the Gospel of Luke, which is sometimes called the Gospel of Meals because so much of Jesus’ teaching takes place during a meal. The Hebrew people of the time saw meals as an opportunity to express their relationship with one another. In our current culture, it is very common for families to always be on the go and not be able to share meals together during the week. Think of the past week and how many meals your family was able to share together and how that time together benefits your relationship.

Did you know….The Solemnity of the Body and Blood of Christ, or the Feast of Corpus Christi, is a celebration of the Real Presence of Jesus Christ in the Eucharist. He is fully present in both the bread and the wine: Body, Blood, Soul, and Divinity.
