Our Great Journey
The theme is “Christ the King” based on John 18:33-37 / Juan 18:33-37
All pray the Sign of the Cross
Pray the Our Father.
When we pray the Our Father, we say “thy kingdom come.” We recognize Jesus is our king and that we are part of his kingdom. We pray his will be done, “on earth as it is in heaven.” Pray that we are making choices to bring about God’s kingdom on earth.
In addition to our prayers from the heart, our prayers for November are the Glory Be & Morning Offering. Please pray these prayers daily to learn them.
Using the Bible, invite a family member to read the Gospel aloud.
Things to talk about:
- Why do we call Jesus the King of the Universe?
- What does a king do? In what way is Jesus your king? How can you help to build up the kingdom of God on earth?
- What does Jesus mean when he says, “My kingdom does not belong to this world”?
Things to do:
- Fudge Spoon Pie—On this Feast of Christ the King, enjoy this rich dessert you could serve to royalty! ½ cup butter 1 (1-oz) square unsweetened chocolate 1 cup sugar ½ cup flour 1 tsp. vanilla extract 2 large eggs Melt butter and chocolate in a saucepan over low heat, stir often. Remove from heat, stir in sugar and next 3 ingredients. Pour batter into a greased 8-inch square pan. Bake at 325 F for 22 minutes. Serve warm with ice cream.
- Jesus talks about the Kingdom of God with Pilate. Find some LEGO or other blocks and build what you think the Kingdom of God looks like. Have each family person create their own version or work together to build one together. Talk about what you built.

Closing Prayer
Gloria Take time to listen to the words of the Gloria and reflect on the kingship of Christ by praying it slowly, as a family.
Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace to people of good will. We praise you, we bless you, we adore you, we glorify you, we give you thanks for your great glory, Lord God, heavenly King, O God, almighty Father. Lord Jesus Christ, Only Begotten Son, Lord God, Lamb of God, Son of the Father, you take away the sins of the world, have mercy on us; you take away the sins of the world, receive our prayer; you are seated at the right hand of the Father, have mercy on us. For you alone are the Holy One, you alone are the Lord, you alone are the Most High, Jesus Christ, with the Holy Spirit, in the glory of God the Father. Amen.
Name those who need our prayers.
Catholic Insights
Christ the King Sunday is the last Sunday of the liturgical year. Next week begins a new Church year with the first week of Advent. We are pointed toward the end of history when God will be all in all and death will be conquered forever and there will be no more suffering or pain.
In this Gospel, Jesus and Pilate discuss kingship and leadership — both have different ideas. Jesus is interested in being the king of our hearts. Jesus tells Pilate, his kingdom is not of this world. Jesus came to earth to create God’s kingdom. He lived his entire life to show us how to establish God’s kingdom here on earth. When we live as Jesus’ disciples we are living God’s kingdom.
