Our Great Journey

The theme is “Love with all you’ve got” based on Mark 12:28-34 / Marcos 12:28-34

All pray the Sign of the Cross

Act of Love: O my God, I love you above all things with my whole heart and soul, because you are all good and worthy of all my love. I love my neighbor as myself for the love of you. I forgive all who have injured me and I ask pardon of those whom I have injured. Amen.

In addition to our prayers from the heart, our prayers for November are the Glory Be & Morning Offering. Please pray these prayers daily to learn them.

Using the Bible, invite a family member to read the Gospel aloud.

Things to talk about:

  • Why is it important to love God above all else?
  • Jesus commands us to love God with all our heart, soul, mind, and strength. How can I be better at that?
  • Share some examples of what it means to love your neighbor as yourself. What does Jesus mean by neighbor?

Things to do:

  • Memorize The Greatest Commandments. Write or draw the different phrases from the Gospel, various saints, or others who have helped you grow in faith. Then post them around the house.
  • Watch the video and learn to sign The Greatest Commandments.
  • Who is your neighbor? When Jesus encourages us to love our neighbors as ourselves, he means more than just the people who live nearby. It means all the people in the world. Think of one specific way to show love to a neighbor this week. Do you know a family who has an illness and would appreciate a baked good or dinner? Can you do a fall clean out and donate clothes to SVdP? Can you create a Mercy Bag to keep in your car and give to someone who needs it?

Closing Prayer

Prayer for Vocations

Loving and Generous God, it is you who call us by name and ask us to follow you. Help us to grow in the love and service of our Church as we experience it today. Give us the energy and courage of your Spirit to shape its future. Grant us faith-filled leaders who will embrace Christ’s mission of love and justice. Bless our domestic Church and larger community by raising up dedicated and generous leaders from our families and friends who will serve your people as Sisters, Priests, Brothers, Deacons and Lay Ministers through marriage or the single life. Inspire us to know you better and open our hearts to hear your call. We ask this through our Lord. Amen.

Catholic Insights

Jesus is being questioned and tested by the Jewish authorities, yet the scribe who addresses Jesus in today’s Gospel seems to be an admirer; he is not testing Jesus.

The question posed in today’s Gospel requires Jesus to interpret the Law of Moses. The Mosaic Law consists of the Ten Commandments and many additional commandments, numbering into the hundreds. For a devout Jew, adherence to the Mosaic Law is an expression of faithfulness to God’s covenant with Israel. The ranking of these commandments was regularly debated among the teachers of the Law. With this dialogue, Jesus appears to close the debate with the Jewish authorities. Mark reports that no one dared to question Jesus further. Jesus reminds us of what is essential; to love God and love our neighbors. Doing these two things fulfills all the requirements of the law. Love with all you’ve got!

Did you know?….. Did you know?…The first full week of November is National Vocation Awareness Week. Take time this week to ask God how he is calling you to serve his Church. Also, pray for those discerning the priesthood, diaconate, and consecrated life.
